Bookclub Rocks!

We had a fantastic time on Tuesday night, discussing Uglies. Seven girls brought grown-ups to the library. We had a lively discussion about the choices that Tally made, the effects of the Pretty operation and what it meant for us here in the real world. Since we were all girls, we were able to talk about one challenge that Tally faced: learning to like herself by seeing herself through David's eyes.

The grown-ups all behaved ourselves and the sixth graders didn't let us get out of hand.

I was impressed that the members who had already read Pretties did such a great job of not giving anything away! That is a tough job.

I hope that we will be able to meet again soon to discuss our next book! Do you guys have any suggestions?

Are You Popular?

Little book, are you popular? (thought this was about something else, did you?)

I figured out which are the most popular books at our school, because I wanted to put it on my Blogger profile. The results weren't surprising, frankly, since I watch you crowd around the graphic novel shelf every morning! That's right, manga takes the lead, by far!

Naruto and Prince of Tennis win, while Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception takes the prize in fiction.

Where are you, avid non-fiction readers? All you guys who check out the Urban Legends books, and the Loch Ness Monster stories? Catch up!

Buy More Books!

We are having a great time at the bookfair. Once again we have a great selection from Bedford Falls bookfairs.

Our biggest sellers are Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, thanks to the Sixth Grade and a Grown Up bookclub which meets next Tuesday! Ms. Kuykendal and I are very excited to host it in the library from 6 to 7:30.

If your mom volunteered to work the bookfair, thank her so that she can hear you.

We are so excited about Celebrating Culbreth and the World. My favorite part is always the food (besides the bookfair, of course). YUM! Crepes in the French room, fried things in the Spanish room, Kim-Chi at the Korean table...I gotta go eat!

When Technology Goes Wacko...

What do you do?

Because I tend to yell and say moderately ugly words. I always want to pound on the keyboard - until i think of what Ms. Brown would do to me. So I slap the table instead.

I have been so frustrated that I have not been able to post. Or email. Or read Scott's blog. Or make bookmarks or posters.

So nice that I can still IM because I do that from home.

But still. There's a lot I can accomplish without technology. I still have tons of other stuff to do (watch movies, read books, run, bike, swim, etc). But, frankly, I'm pretty addicted to my computer. And I think you guys are too.

So what do you do?

Remember, for pity's sake, not to put your first and last names, my friends, or I will have to turn off Comments again. And that's no fun. Because who wants to hear me just talk?
